MCA Stadium pitch report
How the surface usually plays, then the figures from completed matches stored at this ground (average first-innings score is the median).
The ground generally offers a good batting surface, while spin can grip more as a match progresses. The association says the outfield uses Bermuda grass over a sand-based drainage system, with pop-up sprinklers designed to help the surface recover quickly after rain.
- Batting is usually productive when the ball is coming on.
- Spinners can become more influential as the surface wears.
- A sand-based outfield and layered drainage are intended to limit rain interruptions.
- Bermuda grass and automatic sprinklers are part of the venue's playing-field system.

History of MCA Stadium
The Maharashtra Cricket Association developed the Gahunje venue after ticket-allocation disagreements connected with Pune's Nehru Stadium. The new ground was intended to give the association a dedicated international facility. A groundbreaking ceremony took place in October 2007, and construction was carried out in phases by Shapoorji Pallonji. It missed its original target for the 2011 World Cup.
Designed by Michael Hopkins of Hopkins Architects, the stadium uses a deep-bowl layout with two tiers of seating. The first-class cricket played here was Maharashtra against Himachal Pradesh in December 2011. Sharad Pawar formally inaugurated the stadium on 1 April 2012, and the venue soon became a Pune base for IPL cricket as well as Maharashtra matches.
India and England played the ground's first international fixture on 20 December 2012, an India win in the first T20I. Sahara India Pariwar later bought naming rights and the venue was briefly called Subrata Roy Sahara Stadium. The name reverted after the naming-rights payment was not completed, leaving Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium as the current name.
The venue was selected as a Test centre in 2015 and staged its first Test in February 2017, when Australia beat India. Its sand-based outfield, Bermuda grass and engineered drainage were developed to reduce rain delays. The association also describes automatic sprinklers and four floodlight masts among the ground's infrastructure.
MCA Stadium's largest international hosting assignment so far was the 2023 Men's Cricket World Cup, when it staged five matches, including India v Bangladesh. By 6 June 2026 the ground had hosted 3 Tests, 12 ODIs and 5 T20Is, with the latest international on 31 January 2025.
