Toss questions
When is the toss confirmed?
The toss usually takes place 30 minutes before the scheduled start of a limited-overs match, and before the first morning of a Test. FairPlay shows it as soon as the match-data source confirms it, normally within a few minutes.
What does “elected to bowl” mean?
The captain who won the toss chose to field first, so the other side bats first. Captains often bowl first when the pitch may help seamers early, when dew is expected later, or when they prefer to chase a known target.
Does winning the toss decide the match?
Rarely on its own. The figures on this page show how often the toss winner went on to win in each format over the last 12 months. In most formats it is close to half, which is why the toss is one factor among many.
