History of Deccan Gymkhana Ground
Deccan Gymkhana traces its institutional origins to 1906. The club’s own history says cricket was among its early activities and that the campus later developed space for several sports. The same account places the wider sporting expansion around 1916–17, with cricket fields included in the town-planning layout of the Deccan Gymkhana area.
The ground was one of Pune’s first-class cricket venues before the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium opened at Gahunje. A venue history carried in the MCA Stadium article records that Deccan Gymkhana Ground hosted many first-class matches in the city during the 1930s–1990s. It remains a domestic venue: the Maharashtra Cricket Association listed Maharashtra’s C. K. Nayudu Trophy matches there in January and February 2025.
