DY Patil Stadium pitch report
How the surface usually plays, then the figures from completed matches stored at this ground (average first-innings score is the median).
Match reports describe a surface that can slow the ball and offer grip to spin. In the 2023 women's Test, the track was described as turning, while the 2025 World Cup final report said some deliveries stopped on the pitch. Cricbuzz's venue figures show a high Test first-innings average but lower later-innings returns. There is no sufficiently reliable public source here for the soil composition, so it is not stated.
- Spin can become influential when the surface grips.
- The ball may stop enough to make clean strokeplay harder.
- Evening dew is possible in Navi Mumbai, but its effect varies with weather and match timing.

History of DY Patil Stadium
The stadium stands inside the DY Patil University campus in Nerul. It was inaugurated on 4 March 2008 and was developed as a major multi-sport venue. Architect Hafeez Contractor designed the arena with bucket seats and cantilevered gull-wing roofs, intended to give spectators clear sightlines. The venue is owned by the Patil group and operated through the DY Patil Sports Academy, whose official address is Sector 7, Nerul, Navi Mumbai.
Cricket gave the ground an early national profile through the Indian Premier League. It hosted the 2008 IPL final, the tournament's first final, and the 2010 final. Mumbai Indians, Pune Warriors India and Deccan Chargers have used it at different times, while the DY Patil academy has also staged corporate and invitational competitions. The stadium has also been used for football, concerts and other large events.
The venue became an important women's cricket centre in the 2020s. It was one of the two Mumbai venues for the inaugural Women's Premier League season in 2023, alongside Brabourne Stadium. India and England played the ground's only women's Test from 14 to 16 December 2023. That match ended in India's 347-run victory, then the largest winning margin by runs in women's Tests.
DY Patil hosted five Women's Cricket World Cup 2025 matches, including the final on 2 November. India made 298 for 7 and defeated South Africa by 52 runs. The match report noted that the surface could stop and grip the ball, while evening dew did not become a major factor after rain delayed the start. The ground has hosted one women's Test, five women's ODIs and eight women's T20Is, with the last international on 2 November 2025.
