History of Reliance Stadium
The ground was established in 1990 inside the large IPCL complex, around 10 kilometres from Vadodara city centre. It is one of the city’s first-class grounds and became the main international venue after Moti Bagh Stadium had hosted Vadodara’s earlier internationals. The site is associated with the former Indian Petrochemicals Corporation Ltd name, while Reliance Industries is listed as the owner.
Reliance Stadium entered men’s international cricket on 28 October 1994, when India played New Zealand in an ODI. It later hosted a compact run of men’s ODIs involving India, New Zealand, the Netherlands, Zimbabwe, South Africa, West Indies, Sri Lanka and Australia. The venue has not hosted a Test match.
Women’s international cricket added another chapter to the ground’s record. The first women’s ODI listed for the venue was South Africa v Pakistan on 16 December 1997. Women’s T20Is followed in April 2013, when India and Bangladesh played three matches in the format at Vadodara.
The last men’s ODI at the ground was India v New Zealand on 10 December 2010. Its most recent international match was the India v South Africa women’s ODI on 14 October 2019. The stadium still appears as a Baroda home venue for domestic fixtures, including Ranji Trophy scheduling reported for 2026-27.
