History of Baroda Cricket Association Stadium
The stadium project grew from a land and development plan for Kotambi. A memorandum of understanding between the Government of Gujarat and the Baroda Cricket Association was signed in January 2015 for a 29-acre site. Earlier reports put the planned investment at about ₹200 crore. The venue was developed as the association's own international stadium, replacing its reliance on the older Reliance Stadium for international fixtures.
The completed ground opened on 22 December 2024, when India Women played West Indies Women in the first match of a three-ODI series. The opening two games were scheduled as day-night fixtures, demonstrating that the venue had floodlights in operation. The association presented the stadium as a facility with clear sightlines from the stands and space for major domestic and international cricket.
The first international series at Kotambi ended on 27 December 2024, with all three women's ODIs played at the venue. In 2025, the stadium was used for Women's Premier League matches, the International Masters League and the inaugural Baroda Premier League, according to the association's own match and news archive. These events broadened its use beyond the initial international assignment.
Men's ODI cricket arrived on 11 January 2026, when India defeated New Zealand in the first ODI of their series at Vadodara. The venue has no Tests, one men's ODI, no men's T20Is, and three women's T20Is, alongside three women's ODIs. The venue therefore remains a young, active ground whose international record is still developing.
