History of Indian Cement Company Ground
Built in the 1960s close to the India Cements factory, the ground first used matting wickets. Turf wickets replaced them in the mid-1990s. Its first recorded Ranji Trophy fixture came in 1969, when Madras played Kerala, making the venue an established part of Tamil Nadu’s district cricket circuit.
The venue gained a wider audience after the Tamil Nadu Premier League began using it from 2016. Facilities were upgraded for the tournament: capacity reached 4,000 in 2017, while galleries, the pavilion, dressing rooms and media and commentary areas were improved. Safety changes followed a 2017 court case, including additional gates and higher walls.
