Dr. Bhupen Hazarika Cricket Stadium pitch report

How the surface usually plays, then the figures from completed matches stored at this ground (average first-innings score is the median).

The documented Test surface in November 2025 used red soil with an even grass covering. ESPNcricinfo reported that it was expected to offer bounce and hold together early before becoming more helpful to spin. That is a description of the prepared Test pitch, not a guarantee for every limited-overs match.

  • Red-soil surface was reported for the 2025 Test.
  • Grass and moisture were expected to help early bounce and seam movement.
  • The pitch was expected to become increasingly amenable to spin as the match progressed.

History of Dr. Bhupen Hazarika Cricket Stadium

Construction began in 2006, and the ground's first recorded match was an East Zone Senior Women's Inter-State One-Day Championship fixture between Assam and Odisha on 4 November 2012. Assam's first-class debut at the venue came in the 2013–14 Ranji Trophy season against Kerala, when the ground hosted four matches. These early fixtures established Barsapara as Assam's main replacement for older Guwahati cricket venues.

The stadium was formally inaugurated on 10 October 2017 by Assam chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal. Its first international was a T20I between India and Australia on the same day; Australia won by eight wickets. The ground then staged its first ODI on 21 October 2018, when India beat West Indies by eight wickets. Floodlights and covered seating support day-night international and domestic cricket.

Women's international cricket arrived in March 2019, with India and England playing three Women's T20Is. The venue later hosted the opening match of the 2025 Women's Cricket World Cup, an India–Sri Lanka Women's ODI on 30 September. On 22 November 2025, India and South Africa began the ground's first Test, giving Guwahati its first home Test venue. By 6 June 2026 the ground had hosted five men's T20Is, two men's ODIs, one men's Test, five Women's ODIs and three Women's T20Is; ESPNcricinfo also records a men's ODI on 30 September 2026, so that men's ODI total is outdated for 11 October 2026.

Rajasthan Royals adopted ACA Stadium as a second IPL home venue in 2023 and played their first home match there that April. The arrangement has kept top-level franchise cricket in Guwahati while Assam continues to use the ground for Ranji Trophy and other domestic fixtures. The stadium is owned and operated by the Assam Cricket Association and is also officially named after Assamese musician and filmmaker Dr. Bhupen Hazarika.
