History of Maulana Azad Stadium
Opened in 1966, the stadium became a home venue for Jammu and Kashmir cricket. Its international record is brief but varied: India Women played West Indies Women in a Test in November 1976, India Women met New Zealand Women in an ODI in March 1985, and India played New Zealand in a men's ODI in December 1988. The men's match was abandoned without a ball being bowled because of rain.
The venue was renovated under the Prime Minister's Development Package and inaugurated on 15 January 2020. The upgrade was executed by the National Projects Construction Corporation to BCCI norms, with a pavilion, gymnasium, media and player areas, changing rooms and match-official rooms. It remains a Jammu and Kashmir home venue, although international cricket has not returned since 1988.
