Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium pitch report
How the surface usually plays, then the figures from completed matches stored at this ground (average first-innings score is the median).
The venue uses a sand-based field and has a herringbone drainage system designed to clear water within roughly 25–30 minutes of rain. Early domestic T20 evidence described the pitches as batter-friendly, with a high overall run rate, but the ground's Test has also produced a major result with significant spin impact.
- Sand-based playing field rather than conventional soil.
- Herringbone drainage is intended to speed recovery after rain.
- ESPNcricinfo reported an overall 8.51 runs-per-over rate at the venue in the 2023–24 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy sample.
- Manav Suthar's 6/33 in the 2026 Test shows that spin can be influential in longer-form cricket.

History of Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium
The Punjab Cricket Association announced the New Chandigarh project in 2010. The planned stadium covered about 41.95 acres and was budgeted at approximately ₹230 crore. It was named for Yadavindra Singh, the ninth and last ruling Maharaja of Patiala, who played one Test for India in 1934.
Construction began in 2017, but the planned 2020 opening was delayed, including by the Covid-19 pandemic. The ground hosted domestic fixtures from 2021, including Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy and Vijay Hazare Trophy matches, before its formal opening as an IPL venue in March 2024.
The stadium was designed as a replacement-scale venue for the wider Chandigarh region, while the older I. S. Bindra Stadium in Mohali remained operational. Its larger site allows extensive parking and avoids the flight-path and traffic constraints associated with the older ground. ESPNcricinfo reported more than 1,500 parking spaces and an approach beside the Baddi highway in 2024.
Punjab Kings began using Mullanpur as their IPL home ground in 2024. The venue's first international fixture was a women's ODI between India and Australia on 14 September 2025. Two stands were named for Yuvraj Singh and Harmanpreet Kaur in December 2025.
The ground hosted its first men's Test from 6 to 10 June 2026, when India played Afghanistan. India then met West Indies in the venue's first men's ODI on 3 October 2026. As of 11 October 2026, its men's international programme therefore comprised one Test, two ODIs and one T20I, alongside two women's ODIs.
