History of JSCA International Stadium Complex

The stadium was developed by the Jharkhand State Cricket Association inside the Heavy Engineering Corporation premises at Dhurwa. Delhi-based Kothari Associates designed the complex. Construction was planned as a large, multi-facility cricket centre, with a main match ground, practice areas, indoor pitches and player accommodation. The venue was established in 2011, although published accounts differ on the final seating capacity.

Ranchi entered the international calendar on 19 January 2013, when India played England in a one-day international. The ground soon became a regular home venue for Jharkhand cricket and hosted Indian Premier League matches. Its design includes membrane roofs over the stands and an arrangement intended to reduce late-afternoon shadows across the playing area. An indoor cricket centre with three pitches is also part of the complex.

The ground was selected as one of India's new Test venues in November 2015. It hosted its first Test in March 2017, India against Australia, and has also staged a series of women's limited-overs matches. The North and South pavilions contain team and member facilities, while the venue's practice infrastructure supports training beyond match days.

Ranchi has continued to receive international cricket in the 2020s. The venue hosted India–England's Test in February 2024 and an India–South Africa ODI on 30 November 2025. A men's T20I between India and West Indies on 9 October 2026 is listed in the current venue record, so the ground remained an active international venue as of 11 October 2026.

The stadium is close to Birsa Munda Airport and is connected to central Ranchi by four-lane roads. Ranchi Junction and Hatia are the principal railway options cited for the venue. The complex is also associated with the M.S. Dhoni Pavilion and Amitabh Choudhary Pavilion, while ESPNcricinfo identifies the playing ends simply as North End and South End.
