History of Nawab Mansur Ali Khan Pataudi Sports Complex
Jamia Millia Islamia developed the ground in 1989 as part of its campus sports facilities. It was initially associated with the Bhopal Ground name because the land was donated by Sajida Sultan, the Begum of Bhopal. ESPNcricinfo records a grass surface, three turf pitches and a 75-yard boundary, while describing the wicket as a good batting strip. The university says its cricket ground was upgraded from a matting wicket to an international-standard turf wicket and gained viewing galleries and changing rooms.
The venue's international period was brief but significant for women's cricket. The Netherlands beat Sri Lanka by 47 runs there on 17 December 1997 during the Women's World Cup. India and England then drew a women's Test at the ground from 21 November 2005. Jamia's official sports page says the facility has also hosted Ranji Trophy fixtures and university competitions. In 2016 the complex was formally named after Nawab Mansur Ali Khan Pataudi, with a pavilion also named for alumnus Virender Sehwag.
